Dr. Samrat Datta

Dr. Samrat Datta is currently associated with School of Law, UPES, Dehradun as Assistant Professor (Selection Grade). Dr. Datta has completed his graduation i.e., B.A.LL.B. from Law College Dehradun, Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Srinagar,Uttarakhand. He is an alumnus of KIIT University, Bhubaneswar where he pursued his post-graduation (LL.M.) in Criminal Law and subsequently completed his Ph.D. in Police Law and Information Technology from the Pacific Academy of Higher Education and Research University (PAHER), Udaipur in 2020. His area of interest and research is Criminal Law,Intellectual Property Rights and and Family Law. Dr. Datta has a teaching and research experience of 10 years in various law schools across North India and has held administrative positions like Head of the Department, Academic Coordinator, Program Leader, Centre Superintendent for Examinations, Deputy Controller of Examinations, Member of the Proctorial Board, Convener of the Moot Court Society, and Convener of the Legal Aid and Awareness Cell. He has around 50 publications in several national and international and SCOPUS indexed journals of repute to his credit. He is the author of ‘Police, Law and Technology’, ‘Criminal Justice Administration in Colonial India’, Editor of ‘Police and Society’, ‘Criminal Justice Administration: Road Ahead’, ‘Comparative Criminal Procedure: Issues & Challenges’ and the co-edited a book “Law relating to Sexual Harassment: Practice and Procedure.” He is the Associate Editor of International Journal of Legal Research and Governance and the Senior Editor at Beyond Briefs Law Review – An Online Peer Review Journal. He was awarded the Young Researcher Award, 2021 by the Institute of Scholars (INSc), Bangalore.
